an amazing thing happened in the garden one day

Treasure_map1

It all started when Ian was digging weeds near the basil.  He found something.  It was very old.  It looked like a map!

Treasure_map2

It led to another map.

Treasure_map3

Which led to a place, which was hiding a box!  The box was old.  It had a rope.  It looked like a treasure.

Treasure_box

Inside the box were secrets.  And lots of treasures.

Treasure_full

There was a collection of things.

Treasure_2

Really good things.

Treasure_1

Some of the things held more secrets.

Treasure_egg

Some of the things could make us rich!

Treasure_3

Some of the things were for sisters.

Treasure_jewel

It was a great discovery.  His best discovery yet.

Treasure_ian

I bet he really will be an archeologist.

(Happy Birthday Ian!)

Grateful Sabbath

Drawing

Aren't quiet Sundays the nicest thing?  Puttering, reading, cooking, sewing... or doing this little drawing for the kindergarten class.  Yep, I feel grateful for days like this indeed.
A few other things I am grateful for:
:: Ian's drawings.  I have got to scan one of these for a post.  I *love* the stuff he is doing right now!
:: Natalie's singing.  This is our background music -- it never stops.
:: A massive stack of inherited sewing patterns.  (It's on my list to sort them and post some soon.)
:: Art supplies.  Seriously, I love the smell of a new box of Crayolas.  I love playing with art stuff with my kids.  I love that "art stuff" can mean anything from tin foil to rocks.  I love that we have an art museum just down the street.
:: Jonathan.  How lucky I am that he loves art as much as I do.
I am off to spend time enjoying all the great people I get to live with.  Happy Sunday.

talented women

Beads

I visited with my incredibly talented friend, Annette last week.  Everything she touches is utterly brilliant!  She inpires me every time I see her, and I promise some photos of her work soon.  Yesterday I passed by a bead shop and was drawn inside, thinking of the fantastic beadwork that she has been doing lately.  I picked out these to send to her.  She is one of those people who seems so surprised each time someone likes her work (have I mentioned she is brilliant??) and spends her time keeping it all quiet even though she is so compelled to create that a simple card from her is a treasure.  Her sister is the same way.  We met them the first week we moved to this town, and, I'm not kidding, upon meeting them, as they walked away and JB and I turned to one another and gushed "we can never move."

K

Another beautiful, talented person here.  It is so easy to be proud of this girl.  Congratulations, Doll, on being Social Science Sterling Scholar!

On the table tonight: sloppy joes
